2024 Wagoner County Schools Blood Drive Challenge a success

Donations made during the Wagoner County Schools Blood Drive and School Challenge held March 30 in conjunction with the 2024 Wagoner County Emergency Preparedness Expo will help save the lives of nearly 200 patients when blood is needed.
Jade Brown, account consultant with Our Blood Institute, said of 89 total registered participants, there was a net total of 66 blood donors
“This means that 198 patient lives are able to be saved as a result of you, the students, faculty and Wagoner County community,” Brown said. “You all should be very proud! We greatly appreciate every single individual who contributed to the success of this blood drive.”
Of the 66 net total collections, 55 were whole blood while 11 were double red blood cell. Brown added that 36 percent of the donors were first time donors, “which is great growth for our local donor base.”
As for the school challenge, points were accumulated for different components of the blood drive. At the end of the day, Coweta High School won first place honors while Coweta Heritage Intermediate Grade Center came in second. Both schools will receive cash awards courtesy of BancFirst Coweta and the Coweta Chamber of Commerce.
