It is again that time of year for the U.S. Marine Corp Toys for Tots event to be held at the Army Reserve Center located at 26401 E 101 st South, Broken Arrow.
This event brings hundreds of families to the area to receive these gifts in time for Christmas Day. During the past two years the Coweta Police department has learned to direct traffic to a specific route ensuring that highway 51 remains open and uncongested.
The following is this year's operations plan that we will again put in place with the assistance of the Broken Arrow Police department and Wagoner County Sheriff's office.
The Toys for Tot event will run from 18 December to 21 December. The gates to the reserve center will open their gates and allow the families to begin entering at around 0900 hrs. and close at 1700 hrs. each day. We expect families to begin lining up between 6 and 7 A.M. each morning. The majority of families will be expected to come from the Tulsa vicinity using State Highway 51 into the Coweta area from the North.
The U.S. Marines are working on getting an electric highway sign posted at the intersection of Hwy 51 and 257th directing all Toys for Tots traffic to use Florence Road (111th Street) next to Wal Mart, then proceed to 273rd Street turning left. Traffic will continue Northbound on 273rd until they arrive at the Reserve Center Gate entrance. The Coweta Police will also be posting directional signs out providing further guidance to Toys for Tots traffic.
Once these families receive their gifts, they will then exit through the Reserve Center gate and then turn
